I was ten years old when the original 1978 Piranha came out. It was Joe Dante’s first film (he would later go on to do The Howling, Gremlins and Innerspace) which he made for Roger Corman in something like two weeks. Steven Spielberg has always said that it was his personal favorite of all the Jaws rip-offs. The sequel, Piranha II: The Spawning (1991) was James Cameron’s first film, and also his worst.
