Another revealing review. Awesome work.

There was a line in the film that stood out above the entire script. It was when Butler's character is walking out of prison in cuffs to approach the two detectives, and he says something to the effect that he wants to bring down the whole temple on Rice's head. If the climax of the film delivered that, then the film would have been much more successful. I think the screenwriters were to scared to go the full monty. It took the route of reformation of one individual rather than a revolution of the entire system. Maybe the filmmakers are trying to say that the second path is impossible, and that the only lasting change producible in the West must begin with a reexamination of the self's role in society.
